Licensing is an
industry which many artists know very little about. For many
it can be a daunting prospect as you pick your way through
the maze of technical, contractual and legal issues such
as issuing
licenses correctly; charging the right fees and royalty rates
as well as finding new clients who may be interested in licensing
your work for THEIR products.
Over $180 billion dollars is generated in retail sales each
year. “Art Licensing” alone generates over $174
million (2005) annually in royalties. With $19 billion in
retail sales in the “Art & Design” sector
this offers exciting opportunities for artists and photographers
of all levels. There has been very little information available
to help individual artists through all the legal issues and
the seemingly complex licensing procedures in building and
managing a licensing program . . .
